Botox® is a brand of botulinum toxin type A, a prescription neuromodulator that temporarily reduces targeted muscle activity. When carefully placed in specific facial muscles, it can soften dynamic lines—the wrinkles that become more noticeable when you frown, squint, or raise your eyebrows.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has approved Botox Cosmetic for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines in adults. Other uses, including injections for TMD-related muscle pain or jaw clenching, are considered off-label. Off-label use is common in medicine and dentistry, but it requires an individualized discussion of potential benefits, limitations, alternatives, and risks.

Can Masseter Botox Create a Slimmer Jawline?
The masseter muscles sit along the sides of the jaw and help you chew. In some people, frequent clenching or naturally strong masseter muscles can contribute to a wider or more angular lower face. Temporarily reducing activity in these muscles may allow them to decrease in prominence over time, creating a softer or slimmer-looking jawline for some patients.
This effect is not guaranteed. Masseter treatment does not remove facial fat, tighten loose skin, or change the underlying jawbone. A consultation is necessary to determine whether muscle activity is contributing to the shape of your lower face.

Botox Safety and Candidacy
Botulinum toxin is a prescription medication and should be administered only after an appropriate evaluation. Tell Dr. Greg about your medical conditions, allergies, medications, supplements, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, and any previous reaction to a botulinum toxin product.
Temporary injection-site discomfort, swelling, redness, or bruising can occur. Cosmetic treatment can also cause unwanted facial weakness or eyelid or brow drooping. Rarely, botulinum toxin effects can spread beyond the injection area and cause serious problems such as difficulty swallowing, speaking, or breathing. Seek immediate medical care if those symptoms occur.
